I don't get what's going on…but drag and drop certainly continues to not work….Can you help??? Desperately need to copy my stuff from my external drive. I had back ups so I just deleted them but it is VERY WORRYING. For what it's worth on Leopard the operation you describe with this type of filesystem does not produce the same error.

That was actually what I had done in the past to get around this and other similar input/output error messages before discovering this specific command approach. If an Error Code 36 message appears on your computer screen, then your computer is suffering from this issue. It solved the problem for the time being.
