A newer bios may contain a newer RAID version. A monthy after I purchased the system, Gateway's higher end systems division was purchased by Micron, and then about a year later Micron declared bankruptcy.The only reason I mention that is Raid Error On Boot Up I was in a similar situation when bad sector developped on a hard drive and Intel Raid just failed.
However every time I give Apple 'a second chance' it seriously affects my OS. Usually re-booting the system got it going again but I could never find the problem. I contacted Dell whom instructed me to uninstall Itunes then install "Intels Matrix Raid controller" software which got rid of the "Error" message at startup.
