It's reproduced in two out of two full runs, but if I just rerun "make -j8", the build completes correctly, so it may have to do with cpu load. I can compile problematic packages like libcurl-compat fine with clang but some packages like the Linux kernel (which I like to make a custom build of) require GCC.

Also, using a flag for -O2 rather than -O3 with your C compiler will improve compatibility and reliability of packages. I have no idea what swap space is. Your PKGBUILD likely calls make, and make prints the commands as it runs them.
