I Suy'd one of my other machines today, a few hours before Suy'ing this one (which resuted in new kernel install) and that other machine is still on 2.6.38.) I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Maybe you need to try their suggestion regarding the 2.6.23 kernel.
