Basically, heres where the core of the problem was: myDiv.innerHTML = "hi"; when I ran that twice, i would get the error (sorry, I did't investigate enough to know what exact Innerhtml Not Working In Ie I resolved my issue by setting a timer event for 250 milliseconds, such that the function called at the end of the 250 milliseconds replaces the span's innerHTML. A div is a block element, and nothing can change that.You can use CSS to *render* a block element as an inline element.
